Scout Wand vs job alerts: one search or three inboxes?
Short answer: Scout Wand is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that searches LinkedIn, Indeed and InfoJobs from one place. Job alerts are free email notifications that each site sends you for a search you saved on that site. Choose Scout Wand if you want one search across all three sites and optional auto-fill of the application form. Choose job alerts if you want new listings pushed to you without opening anything, on any device. Many people use both. Prices checked on 19 October 2026.

Where job alerts are better
- They come to you. An alert arrives without you doing anything. Scout Wand only searches when you open it and run a search.
- They reach you on your phone. Scout Wand has no mobile app. Indeed describes its alerts as an email notification (Indeed help), so they arrive wherever you read email. InfoJobs says you can create alerts from its web or its app (InfoJobs help).
- They need nothing installed and cost nothing extra. You use the account you already have.
- They use each site's own filters. An InfoJobs alert is built from the criteria you picked on InfoJobs. Scout Wand searches by city, and searching a whole province or region returns few or no results.
Where Scout Wand is better
- One search instead of three. Each alert belongs to one site, so three sites means three alerts, three setups and three streams of email. Scout Wand runs the same search on LinkedIn, Indeed and InfoJobs and shows the results in one list.
- Auto-fill, optional. Scout Wand can open a listing in the app's browser and fill the application form from the details and CV you saved. It never submits. You review everything and press Submit. Auto-fill has not been verified on every form, so some forms may need manual work.
- Your data stays on your computer. The CV (optional), the auto-fill details and the app browser's saved sessions stay on your computer. Scout Wand stores your email address, your license and the free-plan usage count per device on its server.
Another free option: three open tabs
You can also open LinkedIn, Indeed and InfoJobs side by side, run the same search on each and compare by hand. This is free and always works, because you use each site directly. It takes time every time you search, and you have to spot duplicates yourself. Scout Wand replaces the repetition, not the sites: you still apply on the original listing.
Pricing in detail
- Job alerts: no separate charge is mentioned on the Indeed or InfoJobs help pages we read. Check your own account if in doubt.
- Scout Wand Free: €0, no time limit, up to 5 listings per day, counted per device, no card needed.
- Scout Wand Scout plan (Scout Wand Unlimited at checkout): €12.99 per month excluding taxes. Taxes are added at checkout. Unlimited listings, one license for 2 devices, email support. It is billed monthly through Gumroad on the same date as your first payment. Prices are shown in euros. Gumroad processes charges in US dollars, so the amount on your card statement can differ slightly because of exchange rates and bank fees.
- Refunds: technical guarantee only. If the app does not work on your computer and you report it within 14 days of your first payment, and it cannot be fixed within 7 days of your report, the first payment is refunded in full. There is no refund for a change of mind, unless the law gives you that right.
Who should pick which
- Pick Scout Wand if you look on LinkedIn, Indeed and InfoJobs and are tired of repeating the same search three times, or you want the application form pre-filled so you only review it.
- Pick job alerts if you only use one site, you prefer to receive listings without opening an app, or you mostly search from your phone.
- Use both if you want alerts to tell you when something new appears and Scout Wand to run a full search and fill the form.
Limits to know
- Scout Wand covers three job sites only: LinkedIn, Indeed and InfoJobs.
- Searches work by city.
- It runs on Windows and macOS only. There is no mobile app and no Linux version.
- Job sites' terms of use may restrict automated access. Read them before you use any tool, including Scout Wand.
